When patients learn they have a brain aneurysm, their medical records will indicate the size of the aneurysm in millimeters. Aneurysms are usually classified by size:

  • Small = less than 7 millimeters in diameter
  • Medium = 7-12 millimeters
  • Large = 13-24 millimeters
  • Giant = more than 25 millimeters

According to Mayfield Brain & Spine in Cincinnati, Ohio, generally, the larger the aneurysm (>12mm), the higher risk of rupture.
