The Maine Brain Aneurysm Awareness Committee was pleased to award $2,000 scholarships to five students at the KAT-Walk & Karo-5K for Brain Aneurysm Awareness on September 21, 2025.

Our congratulations to:

Scholarship winner Shae Woznicki
Shae Woznicki (on left) is in her 1st year of majoring as a Doctor in Physical Therapy at UNE. Shae’s mother suffered and survived a Brain Aneurysm in 2008 and lead Shae to her career choice. Shae formed a team for this walk – Wendy’s Warriors – to honor her Mom. (Kimberly Tudor Scholarship)
Ryan Kirschner (on right) is also in his 1st year of majoring as a Doctor in Physical Therapy at UNE. Ryan has a deep connection with brain injury — see quote below. Ryan was very active promoting and supporting a memorial walk for that friend -Matt, this past May in New Jersey. (Karolina Kurka Scholarship)
Scholarship winner Kristal Wilson
Kristal Wilson (absent from event) is a 2nd year Nursing student at Southern Maine Community College and is a Brain Tumor survivor herself. Unfortunately, she was not able to join us at the event – she was at her daughter’s baby shower celebrating the birth of her first grandchild. (Jessica Heath Scholarship)
Scholarship winner Erin Madden
Erin Madden (on right) is a 2nd year student majoring as a Doctor in Physical Therapy at Husson University. Erin’s father suffered an ischemic stroke when she was 4 years old and saw the resulting impairments first hand. Erin has volunteered as Outreach Coordinator in Maine for a national organization that provides support to parents of children with cancer. (Cheyanne Audet Scholarship)
Scholarship winner Annah Perkins
Annah Perkins (on right) is in her senior year working toward her BS in Nursing at the University of Maine, Orono. Annah’s aunt suffered an un-diagnosed Brain Aneurysm rupture last summer and due to the swift action of family, emergency personal, and treatment, she survived and has made a full recovery. This experience has lead Annah to specialize in neurological care. (Brain Aneurysm Survivors Scholarship)

These scholarships were established in memory of four young ladies from Maine that passed away from ruptured Brain Aneurysms or Brain Tumor: Kimberly Tudor was a graduate from UNE with a CNA certificate and BS in Sports & Fitness, Karolina Kurka graduated from UNH with a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy, Cheyanne Audet received her BS in Nursing from the University of Maine, and Jessica K. Heath, Brain Aneurysm Awareness Committee member and tireless supporter of the National Brain Tumor Society. A fifth scholarship was award this year for all Brain Aneurysm Survivors. It was funded and presented by aneurysm survivor Dilia Holmes.

We once again thank all those that participate & donate to the KAT-Walk & Karo-5K for Brain Aneurysm Awareness and for your continued support of our efforts to increase Brain Aneurysm Awareness, Education, and Research in Maine and northern New England.
